Over the past few decades, there has been a gradual inclination towards automobiles. One might stand atop a tall building and glance at the streets down here to manifest paramount industrial revolution, black polished streets and cars and bikes hastening down them. It’s quite an accomplishment for human civilization to have come this far. Yet, the automobile industry is a very expansive domain, with supplementary additions to technology every so often. The rudimentary issue that has been established is the emission of contaminants into the atmosphere owing to the combustion of hydrocarbons and their derivatives, which are utilized as propellants in most of the conveyances. Air Pollutants are malignant little entities that might not be detectable unless the inhalant begins experiencing adverse effects, especially in progressing countries such as India.

Necessity is the mother of invention; Automobiles have become an integral segment of our daily lives, primarily assisting in commuting. Air Pollution is a severe environmental concern but abandoning automobiles in their entirety is not an optimal solution, let alone being infeasible and incoherent. Now, if automobiles could not have been prohibited, one had to look up for better alternatives, perhaps some augmentations to the existing automobile technology, preferably the ones that attenuate the emissions. This riveting journey led us to Electric Vehicles, the revolution of the decade.

Electric Vehicles (abbreviated to EVs) are automobiles minus the hostility to the environment. These conveyances operate on rechargeable batteries, which ask for electricity as a propellant. Quite apparently, there is no combustion whatsoever involved and hence, the pollution levels plummet drastically. Moreover, electricity is a replenishable source of energy, in contrast to petroleum, diesel and their derivatives which are exhaustible, should they be used rigorously. There is no carbon dioxide emission which contributes extensively to the Greenhouse Effect (abnormal ranges of temperature due to gases encapsulating Earth, inhibiting the heat to escape). So many advantages crammed up in one single commodity; sounds too expedient to be true.

Like every other battery-operated electrical appliance, the batteries of EVs have a limited lifespan and will degenerate after some time. The main issue might arise in disposing them off; since batteries themselves constitute of some pretty abhorrent contaminants, such as Lithium, Manganese and their salts, just to name a few. There will be approximately null emission should the batteries be disposed of efficiently. The manufacturers can ensure that all the essential metal components are thoroughly removed from the batteries, such as Lithium, Manganese, Copper and Cobalt salts before they are sent for recycling. In this manner, one can commute without being concerned about the environmental impacts.

Electric Vehicles have satiated the much-required solution to contaminant emission. Due to various aforementioned reasons, one can look into the future and vision Electric Vehicles commuting through the black, polished streets. Especially in developing countries, where pollution is a repugnant entity to combat, Electric Vehicles can act as the optimal solution to this.
